"The Lazy Duck's bush shower is a defiant stand against the British climate! - an outdoor solar-heated experience - but the sauna is more relaxing . . . who says camping can't be romantic?"

In the 1890's the ground around the Lazy Duck was used as a stopover for clansmen bringing their horses from Lochaber on the west coast through Badenoch and Strathspey to the Inverness Wool Fair on the east.  In those days the Wool Fair saw the largest annual gathering of horses for sale north of Perth.

The MacDonalds used to camp here and tethered their horses amongst the old Caledonian pine trees for many years before building the original Badanfhuarain cottage and settling with their families in the early 1900s.

Now we welcome a different kind of camping and since the opening of the Speyside Way in 2002 we have seen anything up to 4 small (2-3 person) tents at any one time, usually for just 3 or 4 nights.

This is a truely 'light-weight' campsite, in line with Lazy Duck's green practices and out of respect for what is a pristine environment as well as to preserve the peacefulness and the wildlife in this beautiful spot.

We charge £9.00 for a tent with one person plus £4.00 for every additional person.  Campers have the use of a flush toilet and washbasin, hot and cold water washing-up space, an adventurous hot-water 'bush shower', wet weather cooking shelter, chimenea fire, and free range eggs when available. For lazy days there's also a hammock and the 2-person 'Woodshed Sauna' - with music.

Sorry, no dogs on account of resident waterfowl and Soay sheep, no campervans or caravans because of space and, for the safety of our fragile woodland environment, disposable or 'on the ground' BBQs can only be used if you borrow our tall cast-iron BBQ stand. After 3 nights we will also ask you please to re-pitch your tent to save the grass.

Next to the camping ground, and sharing the campers amenities (including the bush shower), is a fully equipped, twin-bedded 15ft classic touring caravan. Usually available in April and October.

£30 for 2 people per night (£20 for single use) includes electricity, cooking gas, bedding and linen. Just bring your own towels.
