PUBLIC TRANSPORT

  • - an excellent travel planner

  • by taxi from Aviemore costs about £20 (try 01479  811520).

  • by local bus from Aviemore or Grantown-on- Spey (tel. 01479 811211 for times).

  • by coach to Aviemore either by Scottish Citylink from Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh and other places in Scotland, or by National Express from London and other places in England and across Europe.

  • by train to Aviemore from Inverness or Perth with connections from Edinburgh & Glasgow.   Services also run direct from London Kings Cross via Peterborough, York & Newcastle.  There is also a night sleeper service to Aviemore from London Euston via Crewe (all enquiries tel. 08457 484950).

  • By air to Inverness with -

Easyjet - from London Gatwick, London Luton, Bristol and Belfast

British Airways - from Edinburgh, Stornoway (Outer Hebrides), Kirkwall (Orkney) and Sumburgh (Shetland)

Eastern Airways - from Birmingham, Leeds Bradford and Manchester

Ryanair - from East Midlands airport

Highland Airways - from Stornoway and Benbecula (Outer Hebrides)

FlyBE - has taken on the old BA routes from across the UK including the Northern Isles

  • Air Arann - from Dublin

  • By air to Glasgow Prestwick and Edinburgh -
...from across Europe with Ryanair and others. It's a scenic four hour train ride to Aviemore station but there's a worthwhile trick here. If you fly into Prestwick you're entitled to half price rail travel from the airport to anywhere in Scotland. From Prestwick to Aviemore is only £25 return. Just keep your ticket or email printout and buy your ticket on the train. Also remember you have to change stations in Glasgow (Central to Queen Street - a five minute walk).
