Embraced by the forest and on the bank of our duck pond: our waterside eco lodge in the Cairngorms National Park.
“We loved it! Shower under the moonlight, morning walks to the cafe and of course hanging out with the ducks all day. What a wonderful extension to the local landscape. We recommend the mountain bike guiding, it truly was an adventure!” Ivana & Nico. March 2024
This luxury cabin offers wildlife photography opportunities and wildlife viewing at all times of the year. Your neighbours are a friendly flock of Aylesbury ducks who welcome attention when you choose to feed them from your veranda.
Stretch out on the veranda in the morning sun to sound of the stream, delight in the ducks going about their business. Snuggle down in a Hebridean box bed with windows to the forest and the night sky. Fall asleep to the sound of a babbling brook.
To unwind and relax a little more, book a private session in our wood fired hot tub or massage in our well being studio. Please pre-book or get in touch with us for more information.

Eco Lodge Need to Know
The Ducks Nest is self-catering however we offer fresh hen eggs from our honesty shelf.
The Lazy Duck is a peaceful place. For everybody’s benefit we ask for a respectful quiet period between 11pm and 8am. Lazy Duck is a non-smoking environment. Regrettably visiting pets are not possible on account of the sensitive wildlife in the vicinity. Packing a head torch, sturdy footwear and easily carried luggage is advised. Please note this cabin is not suitable for infants.
Your only source of heat is a wood burning stove. This is an elemental element of our hospitality intention and as such we offer unlimited firewood. The porch chimenea is a wonderful experience and we provide a ‘fair use’ supply of oak whisky staves for your stay. If you run out, we can restock for £5.
We welcome enquiries about elopements and small weddings. Please get in touch if you would like to have your special day with us.
We are delighted that you have chosen to spend some time with us in our eco hut and we know that guests value the ecological aspect of Lazy Duck’s slow living so thought you might enjoy knowing some of the ecological savings during your stay.
Water: on a long weekend, we assume that a couple would shower three times and use the toilet 12 times each; roughly this is 1000 litres of water used in personal hygiene. At Lazy Duck (assuming the same) you would use around 90 litres of rainwater …no drinking quality water at all on personal hygiene.
Organics: Of the 1,000 litres of water, roughly speaking 100 will go to sewage treatment works. Our compost loos use no water and form a carefully managed part of our organic material closed loop system. Combined with cardboard, garden waste and hut kitchen compost we produce a significant volume of highly fertile compost. Enough to supply our polytunnel, support a number of local growers and our good friends Speyside Fields for Wildlife.
