This delightful café in the heart of Nethy Bridge is highly recommended. Not only does it serve a delicious range of light lunches, sweet treats, and great coffee, but it also sells creations by local artisans. 25 mins walk. (07963 217793)

Open each evening for dinner, booking recommended. We are very lucky to have this wonderful restaurant just along the road. 25 minutes walk being the best way to work up an appetite or settle a sticky pudding. Monday evenings from around 5pm.
This clever smoked sausage had the brainchild to transport his wonderful fish and chips around the Strath calling at a different village each day of the week. Monday night is our turn and he pitches up for several hours just outside the village Spar shop.

Anderson’s Restaurant:
Lunch 12-1.45 Sat-Sun, Supper 5.30-9.30 Wed-Mon. Booking recommended. The former fishing tackle shop, now the very pretty Anderson’s, is a 15 minute drive away and is a brilliant, intimate and inventive bistro, using the best local produce around. Open for both lunch and candle-lit suppers, great for kid’s meals and has the most dizzying menu of homemade ice cream imaginable. 15 min drive. (01479 831466)

The High Street Merchants:
A favourite with many locals for coffee or lunch, this café is an aesthetically pleasing and relaxed environment to grab a bite. Dinner available on Friday and Saturday evenings. 15 mins drive. (01479 872246)

The Cairn Bar:
Lunches 12 – 2.30 Mon-Sat, 12 – 3 on Sun. Suppers 5.30-8.30 Mon-Sat, 5-8 on Sun. A small, family owned, village centre hotel with a warm welcome, a log fire, top quality food, local ales, great service, excellent value for money and a country pub atmosphere. 15 mins drive. (01479 841212)

Old Bridge Inn:
Open daily – Lunch 12-2.30, Supper 6-9, bar closes midnight or 1am (Fri-Sat). The Old Bridge has become somewhat of an institution in the area. Consistently wonderful menus, always a warm welcome, brilliant new live music and the best craic around. What more does one need? This has become a local for the whole area and always dishes up a great evening. 25 mins drive. (01479 811137)

Mountain Café:
Open daily 8.30-5 Thurs – Tues. Make sure you are ravenous before you enter Mountain Café, as you will want to eat everything! This Kiwi-run café serves up wonderful coffee, a wild selection of cakes, and hearty, healthy lunches in an easy-going atmosphere with great views of the hill. Excellent for kids and for special dietary requirements. Just be aware it is often busy and no bookings are accommodated. 20 mins drive. (01479 812473)

La Taverna Ristorante and Pizzeria:
Open daily from 12-9.30. A family favourite complete with red and white checkered tablecloths, proper stone-baked pizza and an alpine ski-lodge atmosphere. 25 mins drive. (01479 810683)

The Skiing Doo and the Doo Below Bar:
The Skiing Doo has been going since the golden age of seventies ski-suits descended on Aviemore. Enormous steaks, curly fries and a quirky pine-clad après-ski institution. 20 mins drive. (01479 810392)
