Guided Mountain Biking in the Cairngorms
Cairngorms National Park is one of the world’s most exciting outdoor playgrounds. The network of mountain bike trails is endless and developing fast.
Mountain Biking in the Cairngorms National Park is an incredible experience, whether it is lower level trails or big days on high mountains. There are routes for all from novices or young families to experienced riders on a mission. Our local knowledge is overlaid to mix it up and find the perfect flowing mountain bike loop during your stay, planned and delivered specifically for you. Our three guides are highly experienced and qualified under the British Cycling MBLA scheme. More importantly, they are all absolutely nuts about riding in the Scottish wilderness and sharing the experience. There is around 80 years on two wheels between them: riding, racing (and organising them), adventuring, touring and generally having fun. They know what a good day out on the bike means and it does include cake!
Our Mountain Biking Options

Half Day Ride with Skills Based Coaching.
Group up to six: £150.
We will start with the basics of brake modulation and body positions then focus on specific riding styles and techniques for each rider to consciously focus on. The ride will be on one of the lower loops and take in variable terrain for the group to try out new things. It is about getting all over the bike. Whilst we will session certain sections on the ride, it will be a fun-filled, flowing day out.

Full Day Guiding.
Group up to six: £230
Based on weather and your own preference for riding experience, we will deliver an awesome day out. Tell us whether you want to hit the heights of Ben MacDui or explore round Badaguish and we’ll create the perfect loop for the day. Prior to the ride, we will meet over zoom to get to know each other ensuring that on the day we can simply complete safety checks then hit the trails in confidence of a cracking day out.

Flow into Slow Living.
Group up to six: £245.
Have a full day guided ride then come back home for a hot tub.
Discounted lower back & leg massage: £40 per rider.

Meet the Guides

Phil Hodgkiss
One of Phil’s earliest happy memories was his Raleigh Tomahawk (appropriately the younger brother to the Chopper) built and given to him by his older brother. Since then he has raced, toured, adventured and commuted by bike. He has organised endurance mountain bike races and helped out/marshalled at many more. Two wheels are in his blood. Now living in the Cairngorms National Park he has been amassing a list of rides from Lazy Duck’s doorstep at all levels; from family and novice to advanced. Currently studying to achieve his level 3 qualification with Cycle Wild Scotland, he is delighted to have good friend Martin and nephew Richard on board to deliver the more technical and wild rides.

Martin Steele
Martin has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years, working in the cycling industry for the last decade. Over that time he’s done a bit of everything: exploring, racing, event organisation, trail building and, for the last three years, working as an MTB instructor for the Endura Lifecycle Trust. He has huge experience of riding in remote terrain, almost 50 Munros ticked off by bike and a love of exploring the remote islands off Scotland’s west coast. With an extensive knowledge of the Cairngorms and beyond, his guided rides will show you to the best trails that the Highlands have to offer.

Richard Kidd
Richard has been riding since the mid 90’s and can normally be found smashing steep technical trails in his local woods around Glencoe Village. His love of the Scottish Outdoors will inspire you on an exploratory amble through the local landscapes, taking in sweet spots and secrets to be found. If you are seeking altitude and an adrenaline adventure, he will be glad to find the sickest trails to carve some lines in. He will carefully plan a unique day according to your tastes and offer advice to bring out the best of your abilities.
