Frequently Asked Questions
-
A workation is a trip that combines working remotely with a change of scenery. Rather than taking time completely away from work, you can work from somewhere different during the day and enjoy the surrounding area before, after, or sometimes even during work. At The Lazy Duck, you can work from our dedicated co-working space and then retreat to your own woodland accommodation when the working day is over.
-
Yes. The Lazy Duck is particularly suited to remote workers who want to combine a productive working environment with a genuine escape. You can stay in our woodland accommodation and use Head | Space Nethy, our dedicated co-working space, for your working day.
-
Yes. Head | Space Nethy has fast, reliable internet designed for people who need to work online, including video calls and other everyday remote-working requirements.
-
Yes. There is a dedicated working environment, including a small meeting space where you can take calls and meetings away from your accommodation.
-
With the exception being The Woodman’s Hut, all of the other accommodation offers WiFi so in theory you can, but the idea of the Lazy Duck workation is that your accommodation and workspace are separate.
We think this is one of the things that makes the experience work so well. Your hut is somewhere to relax and switch off, while Heads | Space Nethy gives you a proper place to work. When you're finished, you can leave the workspace behind and head back into the forest.
-
The separation between work and downtime is a big part of the experience.
Rather than working from the same cottage or cabin where you're trying to relax, you can walk to a dedicated co-working space during the day and return to your off-grid accommodation when work is finished.
That means you can genuinely leave work behind at the end of the day.
-
The Lazy Duck is in Nethy Bridge in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, surrounded by Abernethy Forest.
It's close enough to local amenities while feeling tucked away in the woods, making it particularly suited to people looking to escape busy towns and cities.
-
Yes. A midweek stay can be a particularly good way to experience a workation.
You can work during the day from Head | Space Nethy, then use your mornings, lunch breaks, and evenings to explore the forest, enjoy the sauna, arrange a massage or simply relax in your accommodation.
-
That's really up to you. You can explore the surrounding forest, go for a walk, spend time in the sauna, arrange a massage, watch for wildlife, cook, read, relax by the fire or simply enjoy being somewhere quiet.
The idea isn't to fill every evening with activities. Sometimes the best part is having nowhere you need to be.
-
Yes. Toast, our pond-side sauna, is available to book during your stay. It's a great way to round off a working day before heading back to your accommodation.
-
Yes. Breathing Space, our wellbeing hut, hosts local practitioners offering treatments including massage and other wellbeing experiences, subject to availability.
-
Our accommodation ranges from completely off-grid (The Woodman’s Hut) to more conventional accommodation (Travellers Cottage), so it depends on which accommodation you choose.
The workation concept works particularly well if you're looking for a contrast: proper connectivity when you're working, and a much simpler environment when you're not.
-
Not necessarily. That depends on your employer, role and working arrangements.
If you have the flexibility to work remotely, a workation can allow you to change your surroundings while continuing to work for part or all of your stay.
-
There's no single right answer, but a few nights can be enough to break out of your normal routine.
A longer stay gives you more time to settle into a new rhythm, explore the area and enjoy the benefits of being away from home without having to rush.
-
Yes, particularly for digital workers looking for an extended escape.
You can stay connected when you need to work, while having easy access to nature and genuinely quiet surroundings when you don't.
-
Yes. The combination of dedicated workspace, reliable internet and peaceful accommodation makes it suitable for freelancers, consultants, creatives and business owners who want somewhere different to concentrate for a few days.
-
Absolutely. That's really the idea.
You might work during the day and explore the Cairngorms in the evening, or add holiday days before or after your working days. You can create the balance that works for you.
