Camping with Lazy Duck
Canvas accommodation in comfort at Lazy Duck.
“This is our second time at Lazy Duck. This time we wanted the kids to share the experience of camping off grid. We now love this place as a family, the hot tub is amazing as is waking every morning in the safari tent to our beautiful surroundings. Thank you for your lovely welcome and we will be back.” Michael, Bea, Daisy & Seth, August 2022
Camping with Lazy Duck is simple, comfortable and easy. We provide a peaceful retreat for families and groups of adventurers. Our safari tent Basecamp is fully appointed with generously sized living and sleeping spaces; the base for your Cairngorms National Park adventures. Laze in hammocks gazing up the mature Scots Pine trees planning the next day’s activity. Wander up to our Poet’s Seat and gaze over toward the Northern Corries of the Cairngorm Mountain.
You have your own camping kitchen and wetroom with WC/power shower. A must during your stay is to delight in the unique Lazy Duck experience of a Willow Bush Shower in the forest.
All you have to pack for camping is your sleeping bag and towels. We provide:
- Outdoor kitchen with gas stove (hobs & grill) and fridge;
- Basic larder: coffee, tea, salt/pepper & cooking oil;
- Pots, pans, mugs, glasses, crockery, cutlery;
- Bedsheets, blankets & pillows. Please bring your own sleeping bags & towels;
- Hammocks;
- Porch Chimenea;
- Space for memories to be made in.
To unwind and relax a little more, book a private session in our wood fired hot tub or massage in our well being studio. Please pre-book or get in touch with us for more information.
NB: Please be aware that even in the summer months, temperatures through the night can drop quite low. If in doubt about your sleeping bag, please get in touch for advice. Basecamp is not suitable for infants under two.
We respectfully advise that our whole site is a peaceful space. If you are looking for a campsite where children can burn off energy or to have a stag/hen party, we are not the right space. There is a large area of grass to share with your neighbours in The Lookout. Please be respectful of each other’s space. From experience, football games are disruptive however badminton, softball and frisbee (all provided) are great fun and often are a way for young families to come together and become holiday friends. Lazing away an hour or two in your hammock is highly recommended!

Camping Need to Know
Basecamp is self-catering however we offer fresh hen eggs from our honesty shelf.
A quirky, spacious and fun holiday camping base for groups or families. Roast marshmallows on the chimenea, play on the lawn or swing lazily in your group hammock. Keep an eye out for red squirrels darting about on the feeders set up nearby. Very often holiday best friends are available in The Lookout, a respectful distance but close enough to be neighbours.
The Lazy Duck is a peaceful place and we respectfully ask that you consider other guest’s experience during your stay. For everybody’s benefit we ask for a respectful quiet period between 11pm and 8am. Lazy Duck is a non-smoking environment. Regrettably visiting pets are not possible on account of the sensitive wildlife in the vicinity. Packing a headtorch, sturdy footwear and easily carried luggage is advised.
Your only source of heat is a gas stove. This is an elemental element of our hospitality intention and as such we offer unlimited gas. The porch chimenea is a wonderful experience and we provide a ‘fair use’ supply of oak whisky staves for your stay. If you run out, we can restock for £5.
We are delighted that you have chosen to spend some time with us in our eco hut and we know that guests value the ecological aspect of Lazy Duck’s slow living so thought you might enjoy knowing some of the ecological savings during your stay.
Water: on a long weekend, we assume that a couple would shower three times and use the toilet 12 times each; roughly this is 1000 litres of water used in personal hygiene. At Lazy Duck (assuming the same) you would use around 90 litres of rainwater …no drinking quality water at all on personal hygiene.
Organics: Of the 1,000 litres of water, roughly speaking 100 will go to sewage treatment works. Our compost loos use no water and form a carefully managed part of our organic material closed loop system. Combined with cardboard, garden waste and hut kitchen compost we produce a significant volume of highly fertile compost. Enough to supply our polytunnel, support a number of local growers and our good friends Speyside Fields for Wildlife.
